Seattle Style Summit Returns Next Week

The Seattle Style Summit will return for a weekend of dance events and genre-specific competitions starting June 26. The summit features multiple specialized battles and workshops across various Seattle venues.
South by Northwest Vol. 3
The festivities begin June 26 with South by Northwest Vol. 3 at The Octopus Bar. This 21-and-over event features a 1v1 Open Styles battle that restricts competitors to Southern trap music. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the competition runs from 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. An afterparty follows until 1 a.m.
Tickets cost $10 now. The first-place winner receives $350, while the second-place finisher takes home $150.
Boxing Ring Vol. 3
On June 27, the action moves to The Beacon for Boxing Ring Vol. 3. This all-ages event features a 1v1 Tutting battle. Doors open at noon, and preliminary rounds start at 1 p.m. The event concludes at 6 p.m.
Entry costs $10. The winner earns a spot in the Tutter's Outlet Bracket on July 25, a free trip to Oakland, and a cash prize.
Book of Styles Northwest Qualifier
The summit continues the evening of June 27 back at The Octopus Bar with the Book of Styles Northwest Qualifier. Running from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., the 21-and-over competition requires dancers to prepare four specific styles: Popping, Waving, Tutting and Animation.
The top prize includes $300 and a flight for the winner to appear as a guest at the Book of Styles battle. The second-place prize is $150.
J Smooth, Icon and Tea Buggz will judge the competition, with DJ Tsunami providing music. Organizers will present additional awards for creativity, performance and best dressed.
The summit concludes June 28 with a series of workshops. Instructional sessions include Tutting with Intricate and CJ Rey at noon, Memphis Jookin with Daniel Price at 1:20 p.m., and Waving with J Smooth at 2:40 p.m.
