The second annual Cross City Cypher will be hosted in Downtown Las Cruces on June 5, bringing a community-driven celebration of Hip Hop arts to Plaza De Las Cruces.

The free, all-ages event is held in partnership with the Fine Art Flea Market and highlights the culture of the Borderlands and the Southwest.

The festival is rooted in the four foundational elements of Hip Hop — Breaking, Graffiti, DJing and Emceeing.

Organizers described the event on Instagram as an intersection of culture and creativity designed to uplift youth and provide platforms for the next generation of creatives to express themselves.

The main event is scheduled for Friday, June 5, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 100 N. Main St. The evening will feature musical performances, live art, and various vendors.

Central to the programming are the dance battles, which include a 1v1 youth bracket, a 1v1 breaking bracket, and a 2v2 open styles competition utilizing a yin-yang format. Battle entries are $15, with cash prizes awarded to the winners. Registration is currently open through the event's official channels.

The festivities continue Saturday, June 6, with a second day of programming. Day two will include a vinyl cypher social, the creation of a live mural, and various workshops. Additional details regarding the Saturday schedule are expected to be announced soon.
